Methodology
How the AI Customer Discovery Test works.
This page documents the method behind the free Business Visibility Audit: what we test, how results are recorded, what is measured, and the limits of what the audit can tell you.
1. Procedure
- Step 1
Confirm the business profile
We confirm your business name, website, services, and service area with you by email. These define which questions are relevant and what a correct answer looks like.
- Step 2
Write 20–30 real customer questions
Questions are written the way customers phrase them: "emergency septic pumping near Poughkeepsie," "best fence company in Albany," "how much does a bathroom remodel cost in Westchester." They cover urgent needs, comparisons, pricing, and service-specific searches.
- Step 3
Run each question across four systems
Every question is run in Google Search, Google Maps, AI assistants (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI answers), and checked against your own website.
- Step 4
Record and score the results
Each answer is recorded as it appears on the test date. Results are scored against the five measures below.
- Step 5
Deliver a plain-language scorecard
You receive a scorecard with an overall visibility score, the answers we captured, and the main gaps, written without jargon.
2. Systems tested
3. What is measured
- Mentions
- Whether your business is named at all in the answer.
- Recommendations
- Whether you are suggested as an option, not only listed.
- Competitors
- Which other businesses appear for the same question, and how often.
- Accuracy
- Whether your phone, services, hours, and service area are described correctly.
- Source strength
- Which websites and listings the answers rely on, and whether yours is one of them.
4. What the audit does not promise
- No rankings. We do not promise any position in Google, Maps, or AI answers.
- No lead or call guarantees. The audit measures visibility; it does not predict revenue.
- No permanence. AI answers change over time and can vary between users and sessions.
- No access to private systems. We only test what a customer could see publicly.
5. Limitations
Results reflect a snapshot on the test date. Search and AI answers can vary by location, device, account, and time. The score is a structured comparison tool, not a measure of business quality.
